Tyler Joseph Beede, born on May 23, 1993, in Worcester, MA, established his baseball career as a right-handed pitcher. His early days included standout performances at Auburn High School and Lawrence Academy at Groton, where he demonstrated skill with an impressive ERA and high strikeout numbers. He was initially drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in the first round (21st overall) of the 2011 MLB Draft but chose to attend Vanderbilt University. At Vanderbilt, Beede became a decorated college athlete, leading the NCAA Division I with 14 wins in his sophomore season and being a finalist for the Golden Spikes Award. He played a role in the Vanderbilt Commodores’ victory in the 2014 College World Series. After his college career, he was drafted again in the first round (14th overall) of the 2014 MLB Draft by the San Francisco Giants, signing for a $2.6 million bonus.
Beede’s professional journey began in the minor leagues with the San Francisco Giants organization in 2014, working his way through various affiliates including the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes, San Jose Giants, and Richmond Flying Squirrels. He led the Eastern League in ERA with 2.81 in 2016 and gained recognition as a California League mid-season All-Star and MiLB Organization All-Star. He made his Major League Baseball debut with the San Francisco Giants on April 10, 2018. During his time with the Giants, he contributed as both a starter and reliever, earning his first MLB win against the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2019. He also actively participated in community initiatives, partnering with Make-A-Wish and The Miracle League to support disabled children in playing baseball, and he operates a sports facility for training in Houston.
Following his tenure with the Giants, Beede experienced various team changes. He joined the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2022, primarily serving as a long reliever and spot starter. In 2023, he signed with the Yomiuri Giants of Japan’s Nippon Professional Baseball, where he became the first non-Japanese pitcher in his first year to be the Opening Day starter for the team. He later returned to the MLB system with the Cleveland Guardians in 2024 and subsequently joined the Minnesota Twins organization before making a move to the Long Island Ducks in 2025 and then the Diablos Rojos del México. Throughout his career, Beede has maintained a focus on his athletic development and community involvement.
