Uladzilau Hancharou is a Belarusian trampoline gymnast, who won gold for his country at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
Hancharou started trampolining aged six at his local club in Belarus. He was spotted by a coach from the sports school and was recruited to join the training programme. The promising young athlete finished his education at the Belarusian State University of Physical Education, making his senior debut in 2012 aged 16. He won the World Cup Trampoline in Sofia, and made his World Championship debut the following year. Hancharou’s career took off from there, with podium finishes at World Cup events throughout 2014 and a gold medal in the individual men’s event at the European Championships. He then took home two more medals at the World Championships held in the USA, winning silver in the synchro and bronze in the individual event. The Belarusian shot to fame in 2016 when he took home the bronze medal at the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games. He fought off stiff competition and was the only gold medal winner for his country at the competition.
Most recently, Hancharou has taken home two medals at the 2019 World Championships in Tokyo, as well as another medal at the 2020 World Cup in Azerbaijan. He has his sights firmly set on a second Olympic gold at the Tokyo Olympic Games, and his home country has already recognised his achievements with the title of Master of Sports.
