Victor L. Wooten is a widely renowned five times Grammy award winning American musician, songwriter, record producer and bassist. He has many admirers of his technical mastery and talent. Born in 1964 on an air force base at Mountain Home, Idaho, he is the youngest of five brothers who are all musicians. Coming from a musical family, Wooten began to learn to play bass at an early age and at the age of 6 he performed in the Wooten brothers’ band. With his family in the air force he moved a lot and in 1972 they moved to Newport News, Virginia, where Wooten went to ‘Denbigh High school’.
A friend introduced Wooten to Bela Fleck in Nashville and they kept in touch, when the group was formed in 1988 he was the bassist for “Bela Fleck and the Flecktone”s. He was also in the band “SMV” with Marcus Miller and has played bass for the band “Nitro”. He is known for his Grammy nominated solo tours and recordings. Wooten is the owner of “Vix” records and “Bass Player” magazine rated him “Bass Player of the Year”. In 2008 he wrote the book “The Music Lesson: A Spiritual Search for Growth through Music”, the story reflects the connection between music and life. Wooten recently set up a music program named “Bass/Nature camp”, this became “Victor Wooten’s Centre for Music and Nature”.
