Henry Czerny

Henry Czerny was born on February 8, 1959, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, to Polish Canadian parents. His father worked as a welder, and his mother in a bakery. He received formal training at the National Theatre School in Montreal, graduating in 1982. Following his graduation, Czerny built a strong foundation in Canadian theater, performing across various stages, including Ottawa’s National Arts Centre, Edmonton’s Citadel Theatre, and the Stratford Festival. His early career saw him establish himself as a seasoned stage actor before transitioning more prominently into film and television. His breakout role came in the Canadian made-for-television film, ‘The Boys of St. Vincent’ (1992), which earned him critical acclaim and multiple awards, including his first Gemini Award and the FIPA d’Or for Best Actor in Cannes.

Czerny continued to build a notable career in the 1990s and 2000s, appearing in significant films such as ‘Clear and Present Danger’ (1994) opposite Harrison Ford, where he played Robert Ritter. He also gained international recognition as Eugene Kittridge in ‘Mission: Impossible’ (1996) alongside Tom Cruise. Demonstrating his range, he took on diverse roles including Yuri the Trainer in ‘The Pink Panther’ (2006) and Neale Donald Walsch in ‘Conversations with God’ (2006). On television, he portrayed the Duke of Norfolk in Showtime’s ‘The Tudors’ (2007) and had a prominent four-season run as Conrad Grayson in the ABC hit series ‘Revenge’ (2011-2014). He later returned to the ‘Mission: Impossible’ franchise, reprising his role as Eugene Kittridge in ‘Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One’ (2023) and is slated to appear in ‘Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning’ (2025). His career showcases a consistent ability to portray complex characters across various genres, earning him a respected position in the industry.

Throughout his career, Czerny has maintained a presence in both film and television, taking on roles that highlight his dramatic and comedic talents. He has also been recognized with a Theatre World Award and two Gemini Awards, and was nominated for the Canadian Screen Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in ‘The Other Half’ (2016).
