Kehinde Babatunde Victor Oladipo was born on May 4, 1992, in Silver Spring, Maryland, and raised in Upper Marlboro. His parents, both from Nigeria, moved to the United States in 1985. Oladipo’s basketball journey began at DeMatha Catholic High School in Hyattsville, Maryland, where he averaged 11.9 points, 10.3 rebounds, and 3.6 blocks per game as a senior, leading his team to conference and city championships. He continued his collegiate career at Indiana University Bloomington, majoring in sports communication broadcasting.
At Indiana, Oladipo developed significantly, transforming from a raw athlete into a prominent collegiate star. In the 2012–13 season, he played and started in all 36 games, averaging 13.6 points, 6.3 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 2.17 steals. His outstanding performance earned him multiple accolades, including the Sporting News Men’s College Basketball Player of the Year, Co-NABC Defensive Player of the Year, and a first-team All-American selection. He was also named the Adolph Rupp Trophy winner, recognizing him as the top player in men’s NCAA Division I basketball.
Oladipo was selected as the second overall pick in the 2013 NBA draft by the Orlando Magic. Throughout his NBA career, he played for several teams, including the Oklahoma City Thunder, Indiana Pacers, Houston Rockets, and Miami Heat. A significant turning point in his career came during the 2017–18 season with the Indiana Pacers, where he was named an NBA All-Star, led the league in steals, earned a spot on the All-Defensive First Team and All-NBA Third Team, and received the NBA Most Improved Player Award. After an injury-plagued period, Oladipo joined the Guangzhou Loong Lions in 2025 and is currently a sports analyst for ESPN as of October 2024.
