Victor Wembanyama was born on January 4, 2004, in Le Chesnay, France. Raised in a family with a strong athletic background, his father was a track and field athlete, and his mother was a basketball coach and former player. Wembanyama initially explored other sports like football and judo before committing to basketball, guided by his mother’s early coaching. He joined the youth system of Nanterre 92 at age 10. His exceptional height and early aptitude for the sport caught the attention of scouts, and he soon began gaining professional experience. In 2018, he briefly played for FC Barcelona’s under-14 team, demonstrating his talent on an international stage, but chose to continue his development in France.
Wembanyama’s professional journey commenced in 2019 with Nanterre 92, where he made his EuroCup debut at just 15 years old, becoming one of the youngest players to do so. Over the next few years, he steadily built his professional resume, playing for ASVEL in 2021–2022, securing a Pro A title in his single season with the team.
