Vincent Poirier was born on October 17, 1993, in Clamart, France. His basketball journey began in May 2010 at the Bussy Basket Club. By the 2013–14 season, he was a top rebounder in the Espoirs championship, averaging 12 points and 10.8 rebounds over 30 games. This early success led to a three-year contract with Paris-Levallois in April 2014, though he was initially loaned to Hyères-Toulon in Pro B. He quickly became a solid rotation player, notably contributing 10 points and 4 rebounds in 10 minutes against Angers in February 2015. His return to Paris-Levallois for the 2015–16 season saw his role expand, particularly after a coaching change in December 2015. He earned MVP of the Round honors in April 2016 against BCM Gravelines-Dunkerque, recording 23 points, 12 rebounds, and 2 assists.
Poirier’s talent caught international attention, leading to his participation in the NBA Summer League with the Orlando Magic in July 2016, where he averaged 4.2 points and 4.4 rebounds over five games. His European career further advanced when he signed a three-year deal with Baskonia of the Spanish Liga ACB and the EuroLeague on June 14, 2017. During the 2018–19 season, he distinguished himself as the EuroLeague’s leading rebounder, averaging 8.3 per game, and was recognized with a spot on the All-EuroLeague Second Team in May 2019. This performance paved the way for his move to the NBA.
On July 15, 2019, Poirier signed with the Boston Celtics, marking his NBA debut on October 26, 2019. During his time in the NBA, he played for both the Celtics and the Philadelphia 76ers, accumulating 32 games, averaging 1.5 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 0.3 assists per game. He was frequently assigned to the Maine Red Claws in the G-League during his tenure. Following several transactions, including trades to the Oklahoma City Thunder and Philadelphia 76ers, he was eventually traded to the New York Knicks in March 2021 and subsequently waived. He returned to Europe, signing with Real Madrid in April 2021 until the 2023–24 season, and then joined Turkish powerhouse Anadolu Efes in June 2024 on a three-year contract.
