LaMarcus Nurae Aldridge was born on July 19, 1985, in Dallas, Texas. His early life involved playing basketball in Dallas parks, where his notable height led to recruitment by Seagoville High School. Excelling in high school, he earned accolades such as second-team Parade All-American and Texas Association of Basketball Coaches Class 4A Player of the Year. After a successful collegiate career with the Texas Longhorns from 2004 to 2006, Aldridge declared for the 2006 NBA draft. He was selected second overall by the Chicago Bulls, whose draft rights were then traded to the Portland Trail Blazers.
Aldridge’s NBA career spanned 16 seasons, where he was recognized for his signature fadeaway jump shot. He played nine seasons with the Portland Trail Blazers, during which he was named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team in 2007. He further developed into a prominent player, earning NBA All-Star selections and All-NBA Third Team honors in 2011 and 2014, and All-NBA Second Team in 2015. In 2015, he joined the San Antonio Spurs, where he continued to achieve All-Star status and All-NBA selections in 2016 and 2018. He later signed with the Brooklyn Nets in 2021 before initially retiring due to an irregular heartbeat. Following medical clearance, he returned for the 2021-2022 season, reaching 20,000 career points, and officially retired for a second time in March 2023.
