Vitor Belfort is a Brazilian mixed martial artist and one of the most recognizable UFC fighters of all time. Prior to his retirement in 2018, he had notable matches against Dan Henderson, Chuck Liddell, Anderson Silva, Jon Jones, and many more.
Born in Brazil in 1977, Belfort traveled to the United States at 19 years old to fight professionally. He quickly made his UFC debut at UFC 12 in 1997 and became the youngest player ever to record a victory. After a few matches with Pride Fighting Championships, he returned to UFC and was scheduled to fight in their debut event in Las Vegas in 2001 before being sidelined with an injury. Belfort later went on to have memorable fights against Chuck Liddell, Marvin Eastman, Randy Couture, and Tito Ortiz. His career then took him to matches with Strikeforce, Cage Rage, and Affliction.
Belfort returned to UFC 126 for an incredible fight against Anderson Silva for the Middleweight Championship in 2011. Reaching a wide audience, he also starred in his own UFC on FX specials: Belfort vs. Bisping and Belfort vs. Rockhold. Belfort had numerous matches with Dan Henderson throughout his career and memorably won against Nate Marquardt at UFC 212.
In 2018, Belfort announced his retirement after over two decades of MMA fighting, but he returned in 2020 for his promotional debut. A recognizable name for several generations of UFC fans, Vitor Belfort will undoubtedly go down in history as a UFC legend.
