Wesley Chiu, born on March 20, 2005, in Vancouver, British Columbia, began his journey in figure skating in 2009 at the Connaught Skating Club. His early competitive years showcased his talent, with notable achievements including the 2017 Skate Canada Challenge silver medal at the pre-novice level and a bronze medal at the 2018 Skate Canada Challenge. In the 2018-19 season, he secured gold at both the Skate Canada Challenge and the 2019 Canadian Novice Championships. He also made his international debut at the advanced novice level, winning the Bavarian Open. These early successes established a foundation for his continued development in the sport.
Chiu’s career progression saw him make his Junior Grand Prix debut at the 2019 JGP Italy. The 2021-22 season was a significant turning point, as he returned to international competition, securing a gold medal at the 2021 JGP France II and a bronze medal at the 2021 JGP Russia. During this period, he landed his first quadruple toe loop in international competition. He made his senior international debut at the 2021 CS Warsaw Cup, finishing fourth overall after a strong free skate. Domestically, he earned a bronze medal at the 2022 Canadian Championships and placed fourth at the 2022 World Junior Championships. These achievements highlighted his ability to compete at high levels.
The 2023-24 season marked further career milestones for Chiu. He won silver at the 2023 Cranberry Cup International and placed seventh at the 2023 Skate Canada International. A significant achievement came with his first national title at the 2024 Canadian Championships. Following this, he set new personal bests in both the short program and total score at the 2024 Four Continents Championships, finishing seventh. He concluded the season with his debut at the 2024 World Championships in Montreal, where he finished seventeenth. Despite an ankle injury in the 2024-25 season that led to withdrawal from several competitions and subsequent surgery, Chiu remains a dedicated competitor.
