After winning the Super Strong Style 16 tournament in 2015, Will Ospreay cemented his status as a premier professional wrestler, subsequently defeating Jimmy Havoc to become the Progress Champion and ending a remarkable 609-day reign. Ospreays professional wrestling career began on the UK independent circuit in 2012, initially performing as the masked character Dark Britannico. He joined Progress Wrestling in 2012, entering the Natural Progression Series I tournament and later forming the tag team The Swords of Essex with Paul Robinson.
During this foundational period, he also showcased his talents for promotions including International Pro Wrestling: United Kingdom (IPW:UK), Future Pro Wrestling (FPW), and Southside Wrestling Entertainment (SWE).
