Will Shaner

Will Shaner became the first American male to win an Olympic gold medal in the men’s 10m air rifle event at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, where he also set a new Olympic record. This historic performance followed a series of significant international junior victories, including a bronze medal in rifle prone at the 2018 ISSF Junior World Championships and a gold medal in rifle prone at the 2018 ISSF Suhl Junior World Cup. Shaner’s early success on the international stage quickly established him as a rising talent in elite shooting sports. Shaner continued his impressive trajectory during his collegiate career at the University of Kentucky, where he was a key member of the university’s rifle team.

He went on to graduate in 2022 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Following his Olympic triumph, Shaner maintained his competitive edge with further international accolades. In 2021, he earned a gold medal in 10m air rifle at the ISSF World Cup Croatia. The same year, he secured two additional gold medals at the ISSF Junior World Championship Lima, winning both the 10m air rifle junior event and the 10m air rifle mixed juniors category.

His consistent top-tier performances underscored his status as a leading figure in the sport. Shaner’s Olympic achievements extended to the team format, where he placed 7th in the 10m Air Rifle – Team – Mixed event at the 2020 Tokyo Games. He also competed at the 2022 World Championships, achieving a 13th place finish in the 10m Air Rifle – Team – Men event. As an Olympic gold medalist and a distinguished American sports shooter, Shaner consistently demonstrates the elite skill and dedication required at the highest levels of international competition.
