Willa Joanna Chance Holland was born on June 18, 1991, in Los Angeles, California. Her connection to the entertainment industry began early; her father is cinematographer Keith Holland and her mother is actress Darnell Gregorio-De Palma. From 1995 to 1997, her mother was remarried to director Brian De Palma. At the age of seven, while playing at Steven Spielberg’s house in The Hamptons, Spielberg advised her parents to put her in front of a camera. This led to Holland signing with Ford Modeling Agency, where she quickly booked a shoot for Burberry. She also modeled for brands such as Guess, Gap, Abercrombie & Fitch, and Ralph Lauren.
Holland’s acting career commenced in 2001 at age ten, when she worked alongside her father in “Ordinary Madness”. Her breakout role arrived when she replaced Shailene Woodley as Kaitlin Cooper in the FOX teen drama “The O.C.”, initially as a recurring character in season 3 before becoming a regular in season 4. Following “The O.C.”, Holland appeared in a three-episode arc on The CW series “Gossip Girl” in 2008, portraying Agnes Andrews, a rebellious model. She also ventured into film during this period, with roles in the independent drama “Garden Party” (2008), “Middle of Nowhere” (2008), and “A Summer in Genoa” (2008). In 2010, she made her major studio film debut in the apocalyptic thriller “Legion” and began her voice acting career as Aqua in the video game “Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep”.
A significant career milestone occurred in 2012 when Holland was cast as Thea Queen, Oliver Queen’s sister, in The CW’s action-adventure series “Arrow”. She was a main cast member for six seasons and returned for guest appearances in seasons seven and eight. During her time on “Arrow”, she also appeared in “The Flash” in 2015 and 2016, reprising her role as Thea Queen/Speedy. In 2012, Holland starred as Davey Wexler in the film “Tiger Eyes”, an adaptation of Judy Blume’s novel.
