Willie Gault

Willie Gault transitioned from a decorated NFL athlete to an actor and accomplished master’s track and field competitor, consistently setting world records in various age groups, demonstrating his enduring athletic prowess. After qualifying for the 1980 U.S. Olympic team in track and field, Willie Gault went on to receive a Congressional Gold Medal, marking the beginning of a decorated multi-sport career. While attending the University of Tennessee, Gault excelled as a dual-sport athlete, leading the Vols football team in all-purpose yardage for three seasons and setting numerous school kickoff return records.

His dominance continued as he set world masters records in both the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes (M50-54 age group) in 2011. Willie Gault’s extensive and impactful contributions across multiple athletic disciplines have earned him significant recognition. He was inducted into the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame in 2017, the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame in 2017, and the USATF Masters Hall of Fame in 2019, celebrating his sustained excellence from collegiate competition to his professional NFL career and his record-breaking achievements in masters track and field across the 45-49, 50-54, and 55-59 age groups.
