Yusuf Dikeç

Born on January 1, 1973, in Taşoluk village, Turkey, Yusuf Dikeç began his career in the Turkish Gendarmerie after attending military school. He became a non-commissioned officer and started sports shooting in 2001 at the age of 28, competing for both the military and his country. In 2006, he set a new world record in the 25m center fire pistol event at the CISM Military World Championships in Rena, Norway. He has since consistently represented Turkey in international competitions, including five Olympic Games, multiple ISSF World Championships, and numerous European Championships, securing a plethora of medals throughout his career.

Dikeç made his Olympic debut at Beijing 2008 and continued to participate in London 2012, Rio 2016, Tokyo 2020, and Paris 2024. He gained significant global attention at the Paris 2024 Olympics for his composed and minimalist approach to competition, wearing standard glasses and a casual jersey, which contrasted sharply with his competitors’ specialized gear. This unique style, combined with his silver medal win in the 10m air pistol mixed team event alongside Şevval İlayda Tarhan, made him a viral internet sensation and the subject of numerous memes. At 51 years and 212 days old, he became Turkey’s oldest Olympic medal winner.

His career highlights include two gold medals, one silver, and one bronze at the 2014 ISSF World Championships in Granada, and a silver medal at the 2023 World Championships in Baku. He has also earned three gold and four bronze medals at the ISSF World Cup, in addition to several gold and silver medals at the European Championships across various pistol events. His journey showcases a remarkable progression from military service to becoming a globally recognized Olympic medalist, embodying a philosophy of dedication and understated excellence.
