Yvonne Jaqueline Strzechowski, known professionally as Yvonne Strahovski, was born on July 30, 1982, in Maroubra, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. Her parents were Polish immigrants. She attended Santa Sabina College for high school and later graduated from the University of Western Sydney’s School of Contemporary Arts in 2003 with a Bachelor of Arts in performance. Her early career involved theatre work in Australia and initial television appearances in shows such as ‘Fear Factory’ (2004) and ‘Headland’ (2005). She made her film debut in ‘Gone’ (2006).
In 2007, Strahovski moved to Los Angeles and quickly secured her breakthrough role as Sarah Walker in the NBC series ‘Chuck’. This role brought her international recognition. Following ‘Chuck’, she expanded her work into various film and television projects. She was cast as Hannah McKay in the seventh and eighth seasons of ‘Dexter’ (2012-2013), and portrayed CIA agent Kate Morgan in ’24: Live Another Day’ (2014). Her talent was further highlighted in video games, providing the voice and likeness for Miranda Lawson in the ‘Mass Effect’ series, and voicing Batwoman in ‘Batman: Bad Blood’ (2016).
Strahovski’s career continued to gain momentum with her role as Serena Joy Waterford in the Hulu drama series ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ (2017–2025). This performance earned her two Primetime Emmy Award nominations for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series in 2018 and 2021, three Screen Actors Guild Awards nominations, and a Golden Globe Award nomination. Other notable projects include the films ‘Killer Elite’ (2011), ‘The Guilt Trip’ (2012), ‘I, Frankenstein’ (2014), ‘Manhattan Night’ (2016), ‘The Predator’ (2018), and ‘The Tomorrow War’ (2021). She also starred as Sofie Werner in the miniseries ‘Stateless’ (2020), for which she won an AACTA Award for Best Lead Actress in a Television Drama.
