Barry Pearson, known professionally as Chapter & Verse, is a British DJ and producer from the United Kingdom. He began his journey with music early, performing in musicals as a child and being exposed to various genres by his parents. Although he first engaged with DJ equipment in 2000, his professional music career as Chapter & Verse officially started in 2020 with the release of his record, “Dreams.” His music blends elements of late 90s rave and Balearic eras with a modern sound, featuring melodic lines, vocal samples, driving drums, and funky basslines.
Chapter & Verse’s path to becoming a recognized artist involved self-taught skills and determination. In preparation for a performance alongside Meduza, he acquired a Pioneer controller three weeks prior and taught himself to DJ. His unconventional strategies, such as sending demos to 20,000 labels from the online directory Labelbase, were instrumental in securing his first record deal. This approach reflects his commitment to his craft, often working long hours on music-related projects. His dedication has resulted in a significant output, with 80 releases within three years of his debut.
His work has garnered attention from industry figures including Alesso, Green Velvet, Roger Sanchez, Sonny Fodera, and Gorgon City, and his tracks frequently appear on Beatport charts. In 2021, he released music on labels such as Thrive, Atlantic, Repopulate Mars, Big Beat, and Island. He also launched his own imprint, Atom Bomb, and secured a three-year publishing deal with Ultra Music. Chapter & Verse is recognized for his live performances, which are characterized by infectious beats and an ability to connect with audiences, making him a sought-after act at festivals and club venues.
