Nimmo

Nimmo, comprising childhood friends Sarah Nimmo and Reva Gauntlett, is a British electronic music band that originated in London. The duo met at school in Kilburn, North West London, and their musical collaboration dates back to their teenage years. During this period, they engaged in activities such as spitting bars and performing at open mic nights within various indie band setups. They also explored established and emerging UK bass sounds from artists like DJ Hype, Bukem, Omni Trio, and UKG artists including Heartless Crew, DJ Luck & MC Neat, and Wookie. The lyrical content of grime artists such as Dizzee Rascal and early Kano, alongside bands like The Smiths, Nirvana, and The Strokes, significantly influenced their musical direction and commitment to lyricism.

Nimmo’s discography officially dates back to 2014, with early singles including “Jaded” and “Others.” Initially known as Nimmo & the Gauntlets, the band was signed to Sony directly out of university based on a single track. This early professional step was a validation of their potential, though they continued to evolve their sound. In 2019, the band, which had at one point consisted of five members, slimmed down to the core duo of Sarah Nimmo and Reva Gauntlett. This transition led to a more focused and distinct sound, culminating in the release of their debut studio album, “The Power,” in the same year. The album featured singles like “No More,” “Everything I Wanted,” and the title track “The Power.

Throughout their career, Nimmo has released several extended plays, including “Room 5 Sessions” (2016) and “Songs from the Credits” (2018), along with numerous singles such as “Touch Me” (2016), “Too Late” (2018), and more recently, “Company” (2022) and “Looking For Loving” (2023). Their music has garnered remixes from notable artists like Maya Jane Coles, Paul Woolford, Catz ’n Dogz, and CamelPhat. They have also featured on tracks such as Wax Wings’ “Reclaim Me” (2020) and TSHA’s “OnlyL” (2021). The duo aims for longevity in their music, creating songs that they continue to value over time. They have acknowledged a growing space for their queer identity within pop music.
