Alice Phoebe Lou self-released her debut EP, ‘Momentum’, in April 2014, featuring the track ‘Fiery Heart, Fiery Mind,’ which was later included in the 2015 South African film ‘Ayanda’. After garnering industry attention through a TEDx Berlin performance in September 2014, Lou opted to maintain her independent artistic approach despite receiving offers from record labels. To support her debut studio album, she released the live album ‘Live at Grüner Salon’ in December 2014. Her initial tour in 2015 included performances at SXSW in the USA and TEDGlobal London, further expanding her international reach.
She continued to build her touring profile, opening for Rodriguez during their 2016 South Africa tour. Her debut studio album, ‘Orbit’, produced by Matteo Pavesi and Jian Kellett-Liew, arrived in April 2016. That same year, Lou’s work was recognized with a nomination for Best Female Artist at Germany’s prestigious Preis Für Popkultur. She embarked on extensive tours across Europe, South Africa, and the USA, notably performing sold-out shows at the Berlin Planetarium.
This period also saw the inception of her side project, Strongboi, which began in 2019. Demonstrating a prolific output, she followed with two more self-funded studio albums in 2021: ‘Glow’ in March and ‘Child’s Play’ in December, showcasing her continuous artistic evolution and dedication to her craft. Most recently, Alice Phoebe Lou released her fifth self-funded studio album, ‘Shelter’, in July 2023. This latest project further solidifies her reputation as a singular voice in contemporary music, consistently delivering critically lauded work while steadfastly preserving her independent ethos in both production and distribution.
