BTS has transcended the K-pop industry to become global cultural ambassadors, shaping trends and influencing millions worldwide. After officially debuting in 2013 with the single album ‘2 Cool 4 Skool’ under Big Hit Entertainment, BTS quickly established themselves as a formidable force in music, going on to release their second Korean studio album, ‘Wings’ (2016), which became their first to sell one million copies in South Korea. By 2017, the septet had initiated a global expansion, pioneering the Korean Wave in the United States. This era saw them become the first K-pop group to win a Billboard Music Award (Top Social Artist) and the first Korean ensemble to receive a Gold certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for their single ‘Mic Drop.’ That same year, BTS partnered with UNICEF for the globally recognized ‘Love Myself’ anti-violence campaign.
‘My Universe’ further cemented their dominance, becoming their sixth Hot 100 number one, achieving the fastest accumulation of six chart-toppers since The Beatles. In 2022, BTS released their three-CD anthology album ‘Proof.’ While members completed mandatory military service in a staggered manner beginning that year, the group confirmed an exclusive contract renewal with Hybe Corporation. Following the completion of all members’ service by June 2025, BTS is slated to release a new album and embark on a world tour, both projected to begin in early 2026, building anticipation for their continued global presence.
