Safeplanet is a Thai indie-pop band that has evolved its unique sound while gaining national recognition through various performances and album releases.
Thai indie-pop band Safeplanet launched their new album recently, entitled Cap, Capo, Cigarettes and Beer, aided by the Safeplanet Sound System.
Safeplanet is featured as an indie brand that changes indie music with their own rule, driven by their belief and passion, performing concerts on stadium stages, implying a connection or support from Marshall.
Safeplanet is a Thai indie-pop band formed by Thitipat “A” Arthachinda (lead vocals, guitarist), Aphiwich “Doi” Khamfoo (drummer), and Chayapan “Yee” Chantranuson (bassist). The band members, all studying music, primarily jazz, at Silpakorn University and Mahidol University, came together after A and Doi, formerly of ‘Shadow Flare’ and backup for Jelly Rocket, invited Yee to join. Their name, “Safeplanet,” signifies a comfortable and secure space for their musical creations. In 2016, the band released their debut single, “Black Box” (“Klong Dam”), establishing their presence in the Thai indie music scene.
Initially, Safeplanet faced challenges due to their alternative sound, which differed from prevailing music styles. Despite these difficulties, they persisted, driven by a strong belief in their unique musical approach. This commitment led to the release of popular songs such as “Khamtop” (Answer) and “Kot Khwam Chep Cham” (Carry) as part of their “Safeboys” album. The band defines their music as a “gallery where we could create anything with no right nor wrong,” often blending genres like indie-pop, funk, and jazz, reflecting their current musical interests. Their sound is characterized by guitar-driven melodies, a distinctive vocal chorus, and percussion, combining various pop music elements.
Over eight years, Safeplanet has refined its style and achieved significant milestones. In July 2019, they held their first concert, “Safeplanet Neonplanet Concert,” at Montri Studio. This was followed by the release of their second album, “Cap, Capo, Cigarettes & Beer,” which was supported by their “BON VOYAGE The First Arena Concert” on June 4, 2023, at Thunderdome Stadium. This arena-scale event celebrated their journey and showcased their continued growth and influence in the Thai indie music landscape. The band’s musical inspiration often comes from personal experiences and a continuous exploration of music from different decades and genres.
