Aaron Comess

Aaron Comess was an instrumental figure in the formation of the American alternative rock band, Spin Doctors. He joined the band in early 1989 as the drummer, solidifying the classic lineup alongside Chris Barron (lead vocals), Eric Schenkman (guitar), and Mark White (bass). The group, initially known as Trucking Company, changed its name to Spin Doctors with Comess’s arrival. In 1990, the band secured a contract with Epic Records/Sony Music. Their debut EP, “Up for Grabs…Live,” was recorded live at Wetlands Preserve in New York City and released in January 1991. This was followed by their debut studio album, “Pocket Full of Kryptonite,” in August 1991.

The Spin Doctors gained significant commercial traction in the summer of 1992, with singles “Little Miss Can’t Be Wrong” and “Two Princes” receiving extensive airplay on radio and MTV. This success led to the album achieving Gold status by September 1992 and further boosted sales after their appearance on “Saturday Night Live” in October 1992. By June 1993, “Pocket Full of Kryptonite” had sold over five million copies in the U.S. and an additional five million internationally, peaking at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 albums chart. The band’s second studio album, “Turn It Upside Down,” released in June 1994, sold one million copies in the U.S. and another million internationally, and they performed at Woodstock ’94 and the Glastonbury Festival. Comess continued with the band through various lineup changes and ultimately contributed to all their studio albums, including “Nice Talking to Me” (2005) and “If the River Was Whiskey” (2013).
