He pursued higher education at Pepperdine University, graduating in 2005 with a degree in Acting and Television Production. Early in his career, McArthur also engaged with improv groups in the Los Angeles area. Beyond his acting pursuits, McArthur is a skilled martial artist, specializing in Wushu Kung Fu and practicing Judo. He commenced his martial arts training at the age of 11 and achieved noteworthy recognition as an All Around Grand Champion in the Adult Male Traditional category at the UC Berkeley Chinese Martial Arts Tournament in 2003.
McArthur’s career in entertainment saw a significant turning point when he was selected for the documentary ‘Kung Fu: Journey to the East’ in 2006. This project, broadcast on PBS, showcased him and fellow martial artist Kristi Jordan as they traveled to China to learn from martial arts experts and perform at the Shaolin Temple. He revisited this documentary format in 2014 with ‘Shaolin Kung Fu Monks,’ also broadcast on PBS, following a group of monks on a global tour.
