Akaash Singh was born on May 4, 1984, in Dallas, Texas, into an Indian American family. He began developing his stand-up comedy skills early, performing at school talent shows and later, during his freshman year at Austin College from 2002 to 2006, where he transitioned from a pre-med track to focus on his comedy career full-time. His early comedy performances included open mic nights in Denton, Texas.
Singh gained recognition through his appearances in television comedy. He was featured in five episodes of the improvisational comedy show *Wild ‘n Out* between 2014 and 2015, later moving into a creative consultant role for the show in 2017. He also took on a smaller role in HBO’s *The Leftovers* in 2014 and was a cast member for the fifth season of MTV’s *Guy Code* in 2015. In 2016, he became part of the main cast as Mookie in the Netflix series *Brown Nation*.
Akaash Singh has also made significant strides in podcasting and self-produced comedy specials. He is known for co-hosting the *Flagrant* podcast with Andrew Schulz, which started as a sports podcast but evolved to cover current events and pop culture, releasing multiple episodes weekly. In February 2022, he self-released his first comedy special, *Bring Back Apu*, on YouTube, which garnered a million views within its first week. Following this, he released *The Crowdwork Special* one month later. In 2024, he released another YouTube special titled *Gaslit*.
