Alain Ngalani, born Pierre Alain Ngalani on July 7, 1975, in Yaoundé, Cameroon, began his martial arts journey at age six with Judo. He developed early abilities, achieving back-to-back victories in junior tournaments across Cameroon and Africa. His mother encouraged his involvement in the sport to instill discipline and focus. As he grew, Ngalani diversified his training, exploring Karate (Shotokan, Koshiki, and Kyokushin), Boxing, Savate, Sanda, and Muay Thai before incorporating Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Wrestling to prepare for mixed martial arts. Prior to immigrating to Hong Kong in 2001, he worked as a bodyguard in Côte d’Ivoire.
After moving to Hong Kong, Ngalani extended his competitive reach, earning multiple titles in Thailand, Japan, and Mainland China. He became a regular competitor for the “Planet Battle” promotion, notably defeating Michael McDonald in June 2008 and Eduardo Maiorino in June 2009. A significant match occurred in October 2009 when he defeated Bob Sapp via decision. Ngalani transitioned to mixed martial arts in 2013, making his ONE Championship debut with a 31-second spinning heel kick knockout of Mahmoud Hassan in September 2013. He achieved the fastest heavyweight knockout record in ONE Championship history in September 2017, defeating Hideki Sekine in 11 seconds. Other notable fights include his openweight superfight against Aung La Nsang in November 2017 and his split decision victory over Ariunbold Tur-Ochir in March 2018.
Throughout his career, Ngalani has accumulated numerous titles, including the 2011 IKA Super Heavyweight World Champion, the 2010 and 2009 Planet Battle Heavyweight World Champion, and the 2004 WPMF Muay Thai Heavyweight World Champion. He also holds a black prajied in Muay Thai and black belts in Kyokushin, Shotokan, and Koshiki Karate, along with a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Beyond his fighting career, Ngalani has established Impakt MMA gyms in South Africa and Singapore, turning the brand into a successful franchise.
