Alec Yoder

Alec Yoder was born on January 21, 1997, in Indianapolis, Indiana. He began gymnastics training at the age of four, starting in a “mommy and me” class before advancing to competitive programs. His early career saw him training at Deveau’s School of Gymnastics, followed by Indy School of Gymnastics, and later InterActive Academy, under the guidance of coach Gene Watson. These formative years established the foundation for his future achievements in the sport. Yoder’s commitment to gymnastics led him to Ohio State University, where he pursued collegiate gymnastics, demonstrating consistent performance and a determination to excel at the highest levels of the sport.

Yoder’s career is marked by several significant milestones, including his selection to the US Men’s Junior National Team for the 2013–14 and 2014–15 competitive seasons. He earned four gold medals and one silver medal at the 2014 Junior Pan Am Championships in Aracaju, Brazil. His performance at the 2014 Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, China, where he secured an all-around bronze medal, further established his potential. His collegiate career at Ohio State University was notable, culminating in a NCAA championship on pommel horse in 2019. This achievement was preceded by multiple All-American honors and conference titles, highlighting his impact on the collegiate gymnastics scene.

Following his collegiate success, Yoder transitioned to professional gymnastics, continuing to compete at elite levels. He was named to the Men’s Senior National Team multiple times and made his Olympic debut as an individual athlete at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. There, he competed in the pommel horse final, finishing sixth globally. Yoder’s post-collegiate journey also included a notable period driving for DoorDash to support his training, illustrating his dedication. He officially retired from competitive gymnastics on August 9, 2022, leaving a legacy of perseverance and notable achievements in the sport.
