About

Amanda Bearse was born on August 9, 1958, in Winter Park, Florida. She began her acting career after studying at New York City’s Neighborhood Playhouse under Sanford Meisner. Her early work included a role as Amanda Cousins on the ABC daytime soap opera “All My Children” from 1982 to 1983. In 1985, Bearse took on a prominent role as Amy Peterson in the supernatural horror film “Fright Night,” which helped establish her in the industry. Her career progressed with a guest appearance in the ABC series “Hotel” in 1986, leading to her most recognizable role.

From 1987 to 1997, Bearse starred as Marcy Rhoades D’Arcy in the Fox sitcom “Married… with Children.” This role spanned 10 seasons and 260 episodes, making it one of the longest-running sitcoms of its time. During her time on the show, she also began her career as a television director, helming over 30 episodes of “Married… with Children.” Her directorial work expanded to include numerous other sitcoms such as “Reba,” “Dharma & Greg,” “Veronica’s Closet,” “Sabrina the Teenage Witch,” and “Jesse,” the latter featuring her former co-star Christina Applegate. Bearse further directed episodes for “Mad TV,” “The Big Gay Sketch Show,” “George Lopez,” “Nikki,” “Drop Dead Diva,” “Anger Management,” and “Kickin’ It,” demonstrating a consistent and varied directorial presence in television.

In recent years, Bearse has returned to acting in films, appearing in “Sky Sharks” (2020) and “Bros” (2022), where she played Anne Shepard. Her work in “Bros” marked a notable return to the big screen after a hiatus. In 2021, she was honored with the Out on Film Trailblazer Award for her contributions as an out LGBTQ entertainer. She also directed the Off-Broadway production of Isobel Mahon’s comedy “Party Face.” Bearse’s career highlights her multifaceted talents as both a performer and a director across various genres and platforms.
