Inspirational Amanda Bisk is an internationally famous Instagram Star and a former pole-vaulter from Australia. Her gravity-defying yoga poses have helped her amass over 716,000 Instagram followers, and she regularly appears at fitness events around the globe including the Elle And Health Magazine event in Brisbane, Australia in 2017. As a pole-vaulter she competed at the highest level representing Australia at the World University Games in 2009 and the Commonwealth Games in 2010.
Born in Perth, Australia, Bisk showed early promise as an athlete and practised pole vault from being a child, and her ultimate dream was to become an Olympic athlete. She trained with the West Australian Institute of Sport, and was also a talented high jumper. She began to represent her country at international level , and after attending the Commonwealth Games in 2010 her Olympic dream seemed to be well on track with the London 2012 Olympic Games on the horizon. However, in 2011 in the middle of her training for the upcoming Olympics, Bisk began to feel extremely exhausted, and sensed something was wrong. As she tried to train less to help herself recover, things became worse and she finally discovered that she had developed chronic fatigue syndrome.
The strain on her body from constant pole vaulting was one of the contributing factors to her illness, and Bisk realised she had to give up her pole vaulting career and Olympic dream. As her condition began to improve, she began to practise light yoga and stretching sessions, and slowly introduced other forms of exercise to her routine on the road to recovery. Now in control of her chronic illness, Bisk uses her knowledge to teach others about fitness, health and the benefits of yoga.
