Antwone Fisher worked as a security officer at Sony Pictures Entertainment in 1992, where stories about his life began spreading and many people from Hollywood lined up to develop his project.
Antwone Fisher was born on August 3, 1959, in Cleveland, Ohio. His early life was marked by his entrance into the foster care system, where he remained through much of his childhood after being born in prison and his father’s death prior to his birth. He spent 14 years with foster parents before being emancipated at age 17. At 18, Fisher joined the United States Navy, serving honorably for 11 years until his discharge in 1989. During his naval service, he traveled globally and earned multiple commendations, including two good conduct medals. In 2009, he was recognized with the honorary rank of Chief Petty Officer by the Master Chief Petty Officer of the United States Navy.
Following his military career, Fisher worked for three years as a Federal Correctional Officer with the Federal Bureau of Prisons. In 1992, he began a position as a security officer at Sony Pictures Entertainment. The following year, he authored and sold his autobiographical screenplay, “Antwone Fisher,” to 20th Century Fox, leading to its production as a film by Fox Searchlight Films in 2003. This marked the beginning of his extensive career as a screenwriter in Hollywood, spanning over two decades. He has also expanded his work into directing and producing, showcasing his versatility within the film industry.
Fisher is also a published author, with notable works including the New York Times Bestseller “Finding Fish: a memoir” (Harper Collins), the national bestselling poetry collection “Who Will Cry For The Little Boy?” (William Morrow), and the self-improvement instructional book “A Boy Should Know How To Tie A Tie and Other Lessons for succeeding in life” (Touchstone Fireside). His work reflects his personal experiences and his capacity to translate them into impactful narratives across various media. He continues to engage in diverse creative projects as a director, author, poet, lecturer, college professor, and movie producer.
