Ben Anthony Foster was born on April 3, 1983, in Leamington Spa, England. He began his football journey at Racing Club Warwick, becoming their first-choice goalkeeper in December 2000. In April 2001, Foster turned professional with Stoke City, though he did not make a first-team appearance for the club. His time at Stoke included several loan spells to clubs such as Bristol City, Tiverton Town, Stafford Rangers, Kidderminster Harriers, and Wrexham. A notable setback occurred in June 2003 when he sustained a cruciate ligament injury, sidelining him for six months.
Foster’s career progressed significantly after he was scouted by Sir Alex Ferguson during a loan spell at Wrexham in 2005. He joined Manchester United in July 2005 but spent two successive seasons on loan to Watford from August 2005 to the end of the 2006–07 season, helping Watford gain promotion to the Premier League and earning their Player of the Season award. He later played 23 times for Manchester United, winning the League Cup twice in 2009 and 2010. In May 2010, Foster transferred to Birmingham City, where he was an ever-present in the league and contributed to their 2011 League Cup victory. Following Birmingham’s relegation, he moved to West Bromwich Albion, initially on loan in 2011 and permanently in June 2012, where he consistently performed, earning multiple Player of the Season awards. He returned to Watford in July 2018. After announcing his retirement in September 2022, Foster briefly returned to Wrexham in March 2023, helping them secure the National League title before retiring again in August 2023.
Internationally, Foster made his debut for England in February 2007 against Spain, and was part of England’s squad for the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Beyond his playing career, Foster has established a strong digital presence with his YouTube channel, “Ben Foster – The Cycling GK,” launched during the UK’s COVID-19 lockdown, featuring cycling vlogs and matchday footage. This platform has attracted over 1.43 million subscribers and more than 138 million views. He also hosts “The Fozcast” podcast and a golf channel, “The Golfing GK.”
