About

Born on October 22, 1976, in Zionsville, Indiana, Brad Stevens developed an early passion for basketball. He excelled at Zionsville Community High School, setting numerous school records for scoring, assists, and steals. Stevens continued his basketball career at DePauw University, playing in all 101 games and earning multiple all-conference and Academic All-America honors while graduating with a degree in economics in 1999. After a brief stint as a marketing associate at Eli Lilly and Company, Stevens pursued his coaching ambition, starting as a volunteer in the Butler basketball office in 2000 and quickly ascending to a full-time assistant coach under Thad Matta and Todd Lickliter.

In 2007, at the age of 30, Stevens became the head coach for Butler University, leading the Bulldogs to a remarkable 30-win season in his debut year. During his tenure at Butler, he set NCAA records for most wins in a coach’s first three, four, and five years. Most notably, Stevens guided Butler to back-to-back NCAA national championship games in 2010 and 2011, becoming the second-youngest coach to reach an NCAA national championship game and the youngest to lead a team to two Final Fours. His impressive collegiate success garnered significant attention, cementing his reputation as a respected and strategic coach.

Stevens transitioned to the NBA in 2013, becoming the head coach of the Boston Celtics. Despite undertaking a rebuild early on, he consistently led the Celtics to the NBA playoffs from 2014 to 2021, reaching the Eastern Conference Finals three times. In June 2021, Stevens moved into an executive role as the President of Basketball Operations for the Celtics, where he continued to shape the team’s future. His strategic vision as an executive earned him the 2024 NBA Executive of the Year Award, culminating in the Boston Celtics winning the NBA Championship in 2024, completing the rebuild he helped initiate and oversee.
