Casey Affleck

Caleb Casey McGuire Affleck-Boldt was born on August 12, 1975, in Falmouth, Massachusetts. He began his acting career as a child, appearing in the PBS television film “Lemon Sky” (1988) and the ABC miniseries “The Kennedys of Massachusetts” (1990). His early work in film included supporting roles in Gus Van Sant’s “To Die For” (1995) and “Good Will Hunting” (1997), the latter of which was written by his brother Ben Affleck and childhood friend Matt Damon. After a period of diverse roles in films like “American Pie” (1999) and “Committed” (2000), Affleck achieved commercial success with Steven Soderbergh’s “Ocean’s Eleven” (2001), where he played Virgil Malloy, a role he reprised in “Ocean’s Twelve” (2004) and “Ocean’s Thirteen” (2007). His first leading role came in 2006 in the independent comedy-drama “Lonesome Jim,” directed by Steve Buscemi.

Affleck’s breakthrough year was 2007, earning critical acclaim and an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of Robert Ford in “The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford.” That same year, he starred in his brother Ben Affleck’s directorial debut, the crime drama “Gone Baby Gone,” further solidifying his reputation as a dramatic actor. He expanded his creative roles in 2010 by directing, writing, and producing the mockumentary “I’m Still Here.” The following years saw him in a variety of projects, including the science fiction epic “Interstellar” (2014) and the gritty crime thriller “Out of the Furnace” (2013), and in 2013, he co-founded The Affleck/Middleton Project to produce film and television projects.

In 2016, Affleck delivered a career-defining performance in Kenneth Lonergan’s “Manchester by the Sea,” for which he won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his raw and authentic portrayal of Lee Chandler. He continued to take on challenging roles, starring in “Triple 9” (2016), Disney’s “The Finest Hours” (2016), and the experimental drama “A Ghost Story” (2017). His recent work includes writing, directing, and starring in “Light of My Life” (2019) and a pivotal role as Boris Pash in Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer” (2023). Moving forward, Affleck is slated to appear in “Slingshot” (2024), continuing his commitment to diverse storytelling.
