The deliciously talented, easy-going and affable Jet Tilakamonkul is an award-winning celebrity chef and entertainer known as Chef Jet Tila. He has appeared on a number of reality TV shows, including The Best Thing I Ever Ate, Cutthroat Kitchen, and Guy’s Grocery Games, as well as being runner-up on the hit cooking show, Iron Chef America. He was given the ceremonial title of Culinary Ambassador of Thai Cuisine by the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Los Angeles in 2015. And he is author of the mouthwatering cookbooks, 101 Asian Dishes You Need to Cook Before You Die, and 101 Epic Dishes.
Born and raised in Los Angeles to Thai Chinese immigrant parents, who opened the Bangkok Market in 1972, followed by the Royal Thai Cuisine six years later, Tila grew-up being surrounded by culinary creations. Initially unsure if he would following in his parents’ footsteps, Tila developed his cooking skills and completed his culinary education at Le Cordon Bleu, where he established a framework of classical French technique to match his extensive knowledge of Asian cuisine. He also completed an intensive study program at the California Sushi Academy. He began working locally, and his backyard cooking classes soon attracted the attention of the Los Angeles Times. His fame grew and he began writing for the Times, and contributing to many other media platforms, including the Food Network, the CBS Early Show, No Reservations, and, of course, Iron Chef America. A highly sought-after consultant, he opened the cafe at Google headquarters in Silicon Valley, and maintains a popular Asian food line through Schwan’s Home Service. He has opened a number of restaurants, and is working on setting up a fast-casual Pan-Asian concept with locations nationwide. And as if that wasn’t enough, he has been part of many novelty food-based records, including the World’s largest stir-fry, and the World’s largest California roll.
Tila regularly entertains his legions of dedicated fans and followers through Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter, posting mouthwatering pictures and videos about his latest culinary creations. He also has his own YouTube channel, Chef Jet Tila, as well as an official website, chefjet.com.
