About

Harry Christopher “Chip” Caray III was born on February 27, 1965. He continued a family tradition in sports broadcasting, being the son of Skip Caray and grandson of Harry Caray, both notable broadcasters. Caray attended Parkway West High School in Chesterfield, Missouri, and later graduated from the University of Georgia in 1987 with a degree in journalism. His early career involved broadcasting for local television stations in Panama City, Florida, and Greensboro, North Carolina, before he moved into national sports coverage. He served as the play-by-play broadcaster for the Orlando Magic of the NBA from 1989 to 1998, gaining experience across different sports.

Caray broadcasted baseball games for the Seattle Mariners from 1993 to 1995. In 1996, he was a broadcaster for the inaugural season of Major League Baseball on Fox. In December 1997, he joined the Chicago Cubs broadcast team to work alongside his grandfather, Harry Caray. Following his grandfather’s passing in February 1998, Chip Caray assumed the role as “the voice of the Cubs,” a position he held for seven seasons until 2004. During this time, he often partnered with Steve Stone for color commentary. After leaving the Cubs, Caray signed a long-term contract with TBS and Clear Channel in 2004.

This new role allowed him to broadcast Atlanta Braves games alongside his father, Skip Caray, and also covered college football for TBS, focusing on the Big 12 and Pac-10 conferences. In 2007, he became the main play-by-play broadcaster for TBS’s coverage of the Major League Baseball playoffs. After departing from TBS in 2009, Caray joined Fox Sports South and SportSouth in December 2009, where he became the play-by-play announcer for Atlanta Braves games and selected college basketball games. In 2023, he began his current role as the play-by-play announcer for the St. Louis Cardinals on Bally Sports Midwest, which is set to become FanDuel Sports Network Midwest after October 2024.
