Chong Kim was born in South Korea and became a naturalized United States citizen in 1984. Originally from Oklahoma, she now resides in Texas. Ms. Kim is recognized as a disabled activist and a speaker on human trafficking issues. Her memoir, “Broken Silence,” was released in June 2017. Her personal experiences with human trafficking, domestic violence, and child sex exploitation have informed her advocacy work. These experiences were the basis for the 2013 film “Eden,” which starred Beau Bridges and Jamie Chung, with Kim serving as a film consultant.
Throughout her career, Ms. Kim has utilized various media platforms to educate the public on human trafficking, issues affecting disabled victims of crime, and broader social justice concerns. She has appeared on major news outlets such as CNBC, CNN, and BBC. In addition to her advocacy, Ms. Kim is a spoken word artist and a poet. Currently, she is focusing on consulting for businesses, speaking engagements, and developing film and TV projects. She is the CEO of E40S LLC, established in January 2020, and Chong Kim LLC, founded in May 2016, which provides consulting services aimed at protecting corporations from profit loss and offering PR management in anti-trafficking efforts. Since April 2015, she has also been the President of Velvet Brick Entertainment, engaging in film, music, public service announcements, and motivational speaking.
Ms. Kim has been a motivational speaker since March 2003, providing insights into preventing child exploitation, runaways, and domestic violence. She shares her personal experiences to highlight cultural dynamics and the impact of racism, working to bridge understanding between victims and first responders. Her work includes offering alternative healing options for trafficking survivors, particularly those with dual diagnoses, and advising law enforcement on case studies and film productions related to criminal syndicates. She has also served as a Continuing Education Instructor at Collin College from April 2019 to March 2020, focusing on Nonprofit Board & Volunteer Coordinator Development.
