Chris Wood

Chris Wood was born in Dublin, Ohio, on April 14, 1988. During his early years, he developed an interest in writing and directing, often creating plays and short films with his sister and friends. He attended Dublin Jerome High School, where his drama teacher encouraged him to pursue acting and writing professionally. Wood later enrolled in Elon University in North Carolina, graduating in 2010 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Music Theatre. Prior to his graduation, he secured a lead role in the national tour of “Spring Awakening,” which marked his initial entry into the professional acting world.

Wood’s television career began with roles in series such as “Girls” (2012), “The Carrie Diaries” (2013), and “Major Crimes” (2012). His breakthrough came with the recurring role of Kai Parker in “The Vampire Diaries” (2014-2017) and later a leading role as Jake Riley in the limited event series “Containment” (2016). He gained further recognition for his portrayal of the superhero Mon-El in “Supergirl” (2016-2021) for a two-season arc. Beyond acting, Wood returned to his filmmaking roots, writing and directing the short film “The Stew” (2019) and later “Snowshoe” (2021). He has also voiced He-Man in the animated series “Masters of the Universe: Revelation” (2021) and “Masters of the Universe: Revolution” (2024), and made his Broadway debut in “Almost Famous” (2022) as Russell Hammond.

In 2017, Wood launched IDONTMIND, a non-profit campaign dedicated to mental health awareness. The initiative aims to reduce the stigma surrounding mental illness by fostering open dialogue and providing resources. This advocacy work stems from personal experience, following his father’s death which was exacerbated by untreated mood disorders. Wood currently serves as a co-executive producer and writer for the upcoming NBC series “Duo,” a project he is developing with Melissa Benoist, demonstrating his continued engagement in both creative and philanthropic endeavors.
