Christian Klien was born on February 7, 1983, in Hohenems, Austria. He began his motorsport career at the age of 13, competing in karting championships in Austria and Switzerland. Klien quickly progressed through junior categories, winning the Formula BMW ADAC Junior Cup in 1999 and the German Formula Renault title in 2002. In 2003, he secured second place in the Formula 3 Euro Series and won the prestigious Masters of Formula 3 event at Zandvoort, establishing himself as a promising young talent in open-wheel racing.
Klien made his Formula One debut in 2004 with Jaguar Racing, where he scored his first championship points at the Belgian Grand Prix. Following Jaguar’s acquisition by Red Bull in 2005, he continued with the newly formed Red Bull Racing team. Klien secured a full-time race seat in 2006 alongside David Coulthard. After his Formula One racing career concluded in 2010 with HRT, Klien transitioned to endurance and sports car racing, participating in events such as the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the American Le Mans Series, and the FIA World Endurance Championship.
