Christina Black, born on October 21, 1987, in Sydney, Nova Scotia, is a Canadian curler who has established herself as a significant competitor in the sport. Based out of the Halifax Curling Club, Black currently serves as the skip for her team. Her career trajectory demonstrates a steady progression, marked by numerous appearances at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts, a premier national women’s curling championship in Canada. Beyond her curling career, Black is also a professional, working as an SSI Supervision Specialist for Scotiabank, showcasing her ability to balance a demanding sport career with professional responsibilities. She is an alumnus of Saint Mary’s University.
Black’s competitive curling journey includes joining Team Mary-Anne Arsenault for the 2014–15 season as a third, quickly securing victories at the Dave Jones Molson Mayflower Cashspiel and Gibson’s Cashspiel. This season culminated in her first appearance at the 2015 Scotties Tournament of Hearts. A significant milestone occurred in 2018 when, as part of the Arsenault rink, she earned a bronze medal at the 2018 Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Penticton. She further built on this success by forming her own team as skip in 2020. Her team notably won the 2020 Curling Store Cashspiel and, despite challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, continued to compete at a high level. In the 2021–22 season, Team Black won the Curling Store Cashspiel and the Tim Hortons Spitfire Arms Cash Spiel, leading to her first provincial title as a skip at the 2022 Nova Scotia Scotties Tournament of Hearts and a subsequent strong showing at the national competition.
The 2022–23 and 2023–24 seasons further solidified Black’s standing in Canadian curling. Her team secured consecutive Nova Scotia Scotties titles in 2023, where they achieved a respectable fourth-place finish nationally after advancing through tiebreakers and upsetting higher-ranked teams. The 2023–24 season started with several finals appearances, including the Summer Series and the New Scotland Clothing Women’s Cashspiel, and a notable quarter-final run at the 2023 PointsBet Invitational. Black’s consistent performance led to her team ranking 16th in the world in November 2023, qualifying them for the Tier 1 Grand Slam event, the 2023 National. In mixed curling, she represented Nova Scotia at the Canadian Mixed Curling Championship in 2013, where her team were finalists, and again in 2018. The 2024–25 season saw Team Black reach the semifinals of the 2025 Scotties, securing another bronze medal, and a quarter-final finish at the 2024 National Grand Slam, demonstrating continued competitive success.
