Chynna Gilliam Phillips, born on February 12, 1968, in Los Angeles, California, is an American singer and actress. She is the daughter of John and Michelle Phillips, members of The Mamas & the Papas. Phillips began her career in acting, appearing in films such as ‘Some Kind of Wonderful’ (1987), ‘Caddyshack II’ (1988), and ‘Say Anything…’ (1989). She also took on the title role of Roxanne Pulitzer in the 1989 television biographical film ‘Roxanne: The Prize Pulitzer’. Her television work includes Kim MacAfee in the 1995 film ‘Bye Bye Birdie’ and voicing Kitty in the animated series ‘Danny Phantom’ from 2004 to 2007.
In 1989, Phillips co-founded the pop vocal trio Wilson Phillips with childhood friends Carnie and Wendy Wilson. The group’s self-titled debut album in 1990 achieved significant commercial success, selling eight million copies. Following the release of their second album, ‘Shadows and Light’ (1992), which was certified platinum, Phillips released her solo debut album, ‘Naked and Sacred,’ in 1995. Wilson Phillips reunited in 2004 for their third album, ‘California,’ featuring covers of West Coast songs from the 1960s/70s. She participated in the thirteenth season of ‘Dancing with the Stars’ in 2011.
Phillips continued her musical journey, forming the duo “Chynna and Vaughan” with singer/songwriter Vaughan Penn, releasing the album ‘One Reason’ in 2009. Wilson Phillips released ‘Christmas In Harmony’ in 2010 and ‘Dedicated’ in 2012, and the group continues to perform shows. Phillips is also known for her Christian faith and has contributed to her brother-in-law Stephen Baldwin’s documentary ‘Livin It: Unusual Suspects’.
