Cody Fern

Cody Fern was born in 1988 or 1989 in Southern Cross, Western Australia. He initially pursued a career in finance, graduating from Curtin University of Technology with an honors degree in commerce in 2009. However, he transitioned to acting after realizing his dissatisfaction with his finance career. He trained with notable acting coaches, including Ellen Burstyn, Larry Moss, and Susan Batson, and made his auspicious stage debut as the lead in the National Theatre’s production of ‘War Horse’. In 2011, he took on the role of Romeo in Shakespeare WA’s ‘Romeo and Juliet’ and appeared in several short films, including the Western Australian Screen Award-winning ‘Still Take You Home’ (2010).

Fern received the Heath Ledger Scholarship in 2014, an award that provides financial and professional support to Australian actors. His career progressed with notable film and television roles. His feature film debut was in ‘The Tribes of Palos Verdes’ (2017), where he played Jim Mason. In the same year, he wrote, directed, and starred in the short film ‘Pisces’ alongside Keir Gilchrist. His television breakthrough occurred in 2018 with his acclaimed performance as David Madson in the Emmy and Golden Globe-winning limited series ‘The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story’. This role earned him the Gold Derby TV Award for Movie/Limited Series Supporting Actor and a nomination for Breakthrough Performer of the Year.

He continued to build his profile with significant roles in popular series. Also in 2018, Fern joined the cast of ‘House of Cards’ as Duncan Shepherd for its final season and portrayed the Antichrist, Michael Langdon, in ‘American Horror Story: Apocalypse’. He reprised roles in the ‘American Horror Story’ franchise, playing Xavier Plympton in ‘American Horror Story: 1984’ (2019) and Valiant Thor in ‘American Horror Story: Double Feature’ (2021), as well as Stan Vogel (2021) and Thomas Browne (2022) in ‘American Horror Stories’. His filmography also includes the role of Jacob in ‘Father Stu’ (2022) and Eddie in ‘Fairyland’ (2023). In 2023, he voiced Dagan Gera in the video game ‘Star Wars Jedi: Survivor’. Looking ahead, Fern is set to appear as Toran Mallow in season 3 of the Apple TV+ series ‘Foundation’ in 2025 and will make his feature film directorial debut with ‘Mother Courage’ in 2025, starring Sarah Paulson and Toni Collette.
