American country and folk-rock singer Corey Smith has racked up tens of millions of sales and streams during his 20 years as a recording artist. Since his debut album, 2003’s Undertones, he has released more than 10 albums, becoming a frequent visitor to the American folk and country charts. His biggest album to date is 2011’s The Broken Record, made number two on the Top Heatseekers Chart and even made the US Billboard Charts. He’s a prolific live performer, often playing over 120 gigs per year around the States. During the pandemic, he stayed connected with his loyal fans by hosting various series on his YouTube channel such as Songsmith 101 and Behind the Song.
Smith was born in Jefferson, Georgia. He initially swerved away from a full-time career in music, majoring instead in Social Studies at the University of Georgia and becoming a Geography and History teacher at a local high school. He always had a love of guitar, however, writing and performing at local venues and offering guitar lessons to his school pupils. In his late twenties, he heeded the call and gave up everything to pursue his musical dreams. He began releasing albums either by himself or through a variety of independent labels, including Average Joe’s Entertainment and Sugar Hill Records (not to be confused with hip-hop label Sugarhill). His first chart success was 2009’s Keeping Up With the Joneses, which reached the US Folk top ten. Among his most recent releases are 2020’s Live at Buckhead, released on his own Undertone imprint.
