Damir Mikec

Damir Mikec was born on March 31, 1984, in Split, SFR Yugoslavia. His family relocated several times during his early life, eventually settling in Belgrade, Serbia. He began his shooting career after the NATO bombing of Yugoslavia, encouraged by his mother and Srećko Pejović. Mikec made his Olympic debut representing Serbia at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, where he reached the final in the 50m pistol event, finishing 7th, and placed 13th in the 10m air pistol.

Throughout his career, Mikec has achieved significant milestones, including winning a silver medal in 50m pistol at the 2009 ISSF World Cup in Munich. He subsequently became the world’s number one in his discipline ahead of the 2012 Summer Olympics. At the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics, he earned a silver medal in the men’s 10m Air Pistol, marking Serbia’s first medal at those Games. Most recently, at the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics, Mikec secured an Olympic gold medal in the mixed 10m Air Pistol team event alongside Zorana Arunović, overcoming an 8-2 deficit in the final. This achievement represents a career highlight, adding an Olympic gold to his collection.

Mikec’s career also includes multiple successes at World Championships, World Cup Finals, European Games, European Championships, and Mediterranean Games, accumulating a total of 30 gold, 34 silver, and 17 bronze medals across various competitions. His dedication to the sport has made him a prominent figure in international shooting, with consistent performances across more than five Olympic cycles.
