Daniel Abrams was born on May 20, 1966, in Manhattan, New York City, to Efrat Abrams and Floyd Abrams, a First Amendment lawyer. He earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from Duke University in 1988, where he anchored newscasts on Cable 13 and was a member of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity. He then pursued legal education, receiving his Juris Doctor from Columbia Law School in 1992. His early career began at Court TV, where he covered high-profile legal proceedings, including the O.J. Simpson case, the International Criminal Court in the Netherlands, and the assisted-suicide trials of Dr. Jack Kevorkian in Michigan.
Abrams transitioned to NBC News in 1997 as a general assignment correspondent, advancing to Chief Legal Correspondent. He hosted “The Abrams Report” starting in 2001 and later served as the general manager of MSNBC, a role he left to focus on his show “Live with Dan Abrams,” which evolved into “Verdict with Dan Abrams” until 2008. In 2011, he moved to ABC News as Chief Legal Analyst, also serving as a substitute anchor for “Good Morning America” and later as an anchor for “Nightline” until 2014, when he returned to his role as Chief Legal Analyst to dedicate more time to his burgeoning media ventures.
His entrepreneurial spirit has led to the founding of Abrams Media, a company encompassing several digital properties. These include Mediaite, a news site launched in 2009 focusing on media celebrity and political analysis, and Law&Crime, established in 2016 (initially LawNewz), which streams trials and provides legal news. Abrams also hosted “Live PD” on A&E, offering live coverage of police work, and its successor, “On Patrol: Live” on Reelz after “Live PD” was canceled. He also hosted “Dan Abrams Live” on NewsNation. Additionally, he has authored several best-selling books about historical trials, demonstrating a consistent focus on legal analysis and narrative storytelling across various platforms.
