Danny Willett

Daniel John Willett was born on October 3, 1987, in Sheffield, England. He developed an early interest in golf, participating in local events and eventually joining Birley Wood Golf Club. Willett’s talent was evident during his amateur career, where he secured a golf scholarship at Jacksonville State University. He became the 2006 Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Year and won medallist honors at the 2007 OVC Championship. In 2007, he won the English Amateur Championship and competed in the Walker Cup. By March 2008, he had achieved the number one ranking among amateur golfers worldwide.

Willett transitioned to professional golf in May 2008, quickly earning his European Tour card for the 2009 season. His inaugural European Tour victory came in June 2012 at the BMW International Open. Over the next few years, Willett consistently performed well, securing a second victory at the Nedbank Golf Challenge in December 2014 and a third at the Omega European Masters in July 2015. These achievements led him to earn special temporary membership on the PGA Tour. The pinnacle of his career came in April 2016 when he won his first major championship, the Masters Tournament, following a notable performance where he shot a final round of 67.

Following his Masters victory, Willett accepted full PGA Tour membership and reached ninth place in the Official World Golf Ranking. That same year, he won the Omega Dubai Desert Classic and represented Europe in the 2016 Ryder Cup and Summer Olympics. Despite facing challenges, including a back injury in 2017, Willett demonstrated resilience. He returned to form in 2018 with a victory at the DP World Tour Championship, Dubai, and continued his success in 2019 by winning the BMW PGA Championship. In 2021, he secured his eighth European Tour title at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, maintaining his standing as a consistent performer on the international golf circuit.
