Darcy Moore

Darcy Moore, born on January 25, 1996, developed his Australian rules football skills from a young age, participating in the Auskick program at Ivanhoe and playing junior football for the Ivanhoe Junior Football Club and Kew Comets. Even with an injury-interrupted season in 2012, he continued to excel, co-captaining Carey Baptist Grammar School in 2013 and leading the Oakleigh Chargers to a premiership in the 2014 TAC Cup season. Moore was drafted by the Collingwood Football Club with pick number 9 in the 2014 AFL draft under the father-son rule, following in the footsteps of his father, Peter Moore, a former Collingwood captain and dual Brownlow Medalist. He was assigned the number 30 guernsey, the same number his father wore.

Moore made his AFL debut in 2015 and quickly established himself as a versatile player, capable of playing both as a key defender and a tall forward. He signed a two-year contract extension before making his senior appearance, demonstrating the club’s confidence in his potential. His talent was recognized early, earning an AFL Rising Star nomination in 2016 and being named to the AFL Players Association’s 22 Under 22 team the same year. Despite hamstring injuries limiting his games in 2018, Moore’s impact was significant, leading to a two-year contract extension amidst interest from other clubs like Sydney. Praised by former captains Garry Lyon and Wayne Carey as a generational talent, Moore continued to evolve his game.

In 2020, Moore represented Victoria in the State of Origin for Bushfire Relief Match, wearing the number 30 guernsey, further honoring his family’s legacy. A major turning point in his career came in February 2023 when he was appointed Collingwood captain, mirroring his father’s achievement. In his first year as captain, Moore led Collingwood to a premiership in 2023, an achievement he has described as beyond imagination. Outside of football, Moore is pursuing academic endeavors, having completed commerce studies and currently undertaking a Masters of International Relations at the University of Melbourne. He is also actively involved in social issues, including Reconciliation efforts and advocating for AFLW CBA negotiations, showcasing his commitment to making a positive impact beyond the field.
