Dave Jageler

Dave Jageler, born on October 16, 1971, in Windsor, Connecticut, is an established American baseball broadcaster. He began his broadcasting career at Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, where he called Syracuse football and basketball games on WAER, and Triple-A baseball for the Syracuse Chiefs on Time Warner Cable and the Empire Sports Network. After graduating in 1993 with a degree in broadcast journalism, Jageler gained experience in various sports capacities. He spent six years in Charlotte, N.C., as the voice of UNC-Charlotte basketball and co-hosted a morning drive talk show. During this period, he also provided play-by-play for the Triple-A Charlotte Knights in 1995, 1996, and 2001. His voice was also heard in D.C. as a host on the Virginia Tech Sports Network during the 1993-94 basketball season. Before joining the Nationals, Jageler worked in Boston, co-hosting an afternoon talk show and serving in various roles, including fill-in play-by-play, with the Boston Celtics radio network, and publicly announced games during part of the 2002–03 NBA season. He also served as the radio and TV voice of the Pawtucket Red Sox of the Triple-A International League in 2005, a noted springboard for Major League baseball broadcasters.

Jageler joined the Washington Nationals in 2006, forming a long-standing radio play-by-play duo with Charlie Slowes. This partnership has positioned him at the microphone for significant moments in the team’s history, including their 2019 World Series championship, four National League East championships, three no-hitters, and Max Scherzer’s MLB record-tying 20-strikeout performance. For 2,016 consecutive games, from Opening Day in 2006 until May 31, 2018, Jageler called every Nationals regular-season game, a streak that concluded when he attended his son’s high school graduation. His work extends to national platforms, calling select MLB games on ESPN Radio. Jageler has also served as the studio host for Westwood One’s NHL Game of the Week and various college football networks like Florida State and Texas Longhorns, where he also did fill-in play-by-play.

His contributions to sports broadcasting have been recognized with awards, including being honored by the National Sports Media Association as Washington D.C.’s Sportscaster of the Year in both 2020 and 2023. This recognition highlights his consistent performance and dedication to covering baseball and other sports. Dave and his wife, Jennifer, have two children, Jared and Sarah.
