David Bromstad

David Bromstad was born on August 17, 1973, in Cokato, Minnesota, as the youngest of four children. Early in his life, he showed an interest in art and design. He attended Wayzata High School and later pursued formal art education at the Ringling College of Art and Design in Sarasota, Florida. This institution is recognized for its programs that prepare students for roles with companies like Disney. After graduating, Bromstad worked as a Disney illustrator, contributing his artistic skills to the renowned entertainment company.

Following his tenure as a Disney illustrator, David Bromstad established his own company, Bromstad Studio. A significant turning point in his career came when he relocated to Miami Beach and auditioned for HGTV’s “Design Star” in 2006. He emerged as the winner of the debut season, earning a car and the opportunity to host his own television show. From 2007 to 2012, he hosted “Color Splash” on HGTV, where he showcased his design philosophy centered on integrating bold colors into interior spaces. His role evolved within the “Design Star” franchise, appearing as a guest judge, a mentor starting from Season 6, and a host from Season 7.

Bromstad’s career continued to expand with various HGTV appearances and hosting roles. In 2012, he hosted “Design Star All-Stars.” He also featured on “HGTV’s Design at Your Door” and competed in the second season of “Rock the Block,” partnering with designer Tiffany Brooks. His presence was noted on shows such as “HGTV’d,” “HGTV Showdown,” and “Bang for Your Buck.” Since 2015, David Bromstad has been the host of “My Lottery Dream Home,” a show that follows lottery winners as they search for their ideal new homes, further cementing his status as a prominent figure in design television.
