Dawid Kubacki is a Polish ski jumper and three-time Olympian who won bronze and silver medals at the 2018 and 2022 Winter Olympics. He is also a World Champion, having won gold in the team large hill in 2017 and individual normal hill in 2019. During the 2019-20 World Cup season, he won the prestigious Four Hills tournament, joining an elite band of ski jumpers to have triumphed in the competition. The success helped him to his highest overall World Cup finish yet: fourth place.
Kubacki was born in the town of Nowy Targ in March 1990. He made his international debut just days after his 17th birthday in a stage of the 2007 Continental World Cup. He made his World Cup debut in January 2009 and entered the Four Hills tournament for the first time in December 2010, finishing 43rd.
After years of hard graft, Kubacki finally won his first race — a stage of the Summer Grand Prix — in July 2014. His results steadily began to improve, and in the 2016/17 season, he finished in the top 20 for the first time. At the end of the following season, he finished in the top 10, then in the top five. In 2019, he achieved his amazing Four Hills win, which made of all the hard work worthwhile. By that time, he also had World Championship medals to his name. All that was needed to complete the set was an Olympic medal, which finally — and deservedly — came in early 2022.
