Demarcus Ware

DeMarcus Omar Ware was born on July 31, 1982, in Auburn, Alabama. During his high school years, Ware actively participated in football, basketball, baseball, and track at Auburn High School. He excelled in football as both a linebacker and wide receiver, capping his senior year with an undefeated season. He earned titles such as the team’s Most Valuable Wide Receiver and Most Valuable Linebacker and received Top Leadership honors, finishing with seven sacks and 55 tackles. In track and field, Ware demonstrated talent in the long jump, high jump, and 55-meter dash.

Ware accepted a scholarship to Troy University, where he became a two-time All-Sun Belt Conference selection for the Troy Trojans football team. He became a defensive end starter in his sophomore year. As a senior, Ware’s performance earned him the Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Year award and a finalist spot for the Hendricks Award. He concluded his collegiate career with 27.5 sacks and 201 tackles, setting school records for career tackles for loss. His contributions led Troy to their first bowl appearance, the Silicon Valley Football Classic, in 2004. In recognition of his achievements, he was inducted into the Troy University Sports Hall of Fame in 2012 and the Senior Bowl Hall of Fame in 2014.

Selected by the Dallas Cowboys as the 11th overall pick in the 2005 NFL Draft, Ware quickly established himself as a dominant force. He earned NFL Defensive Rookie of the Month in October 2005, and later tied the Cowboys’ single-game sack record. Over his nine seasons with the Cowboys, Ware became the franchise’s all-time leader in quarterback sacks with 117. He played three seasons with the Denver Broncos, winning Super Bowl 50 in 2016. After retiring from the NFL in 2017, he signed a one-day contract to retire as a Dallas Cowboy. In 2023, Ware was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, solidifying his legacy as one of the NFL’s premier defensive players.
