Devin Haney was born on November 17, 1998, in San Francisco, California. He began boxing at the age of seven and later moved to Las Vegas with his father, Bill Haney, at 14 to further his training. Haney turned professional and began to establish himself in the lightweight division, eventually becoming the WBC interim lightweight champion in September 2019 after defeating Zaur Abdullaev. His consistent performance led to him being elevated to WBC lightweight champion in October 2019 when Vasiliy Lomachenko was promoted to ‘Franchise Champion’ by the WBC.
Throughout his career, Haney has demonstrated a disciplined boxing style characterized by strong defense, precise timing, and strategic out-maneuvering of opponents. Notable victories include unanimous decision wins against seasoned fighters such as Yuriorkis Gamboa in November 2020 and Jorge Linares in May 2021. In June 2022, Haney achieved undisputed lightweight champion status by defeating George Kambosos Jr. in Melbourne, Australia, unifying the WBA (Super), WBC, IBF, WBO, and The Ring lightweight titles.
